As much as humans profess to love music so passionately, it’s a wonder we don’t visit the record store a bit more often. Sure, it’s easy to download iTunes (or whatever outlet you use to purchase your music), but that doesn’t give you the feel of the vinyl, the smell of the record boxes, or even the fun of looking at the back of each CD case.
Remember putting those headphones on to try tracks? Now we all just sit at our computers, listening to selections from home—which, sure, can be convenient, but it just doesn’t have the ambiance that the record store has. Plus, our local record store also has candles, incense, cool wall hangings, and stickers to check out—all fun things that add to the experience.
If you have time this weekend, hit your records store. The 16th falls on a Saturday this year, which is a perfect day for browsing. Bring your friends, kids, or nieces and nephews and introduce them to the experience; odds are that they’ve never even been to a live record store. Be sure to make them listen to some of your favorite songs while you’re there, and if they find something in the 99-cent bin, go ahead and treat them (as well as yourself!).
